Hi all,

Quick question, we need some fresh tyres on our discovery and I've got a pair off my defender, however the defender ones are slightly taller. If we were to put then one just one axle would it wind up the gearbox because I'm under the impression that the center diff would resolve it but my mates aren't convinced.

Thanks

Albert

You need to give the full information on the disco tyres for anyone to give a correct answer to this.

about 3/4" in height............. 4-5 millimeter screws up freelanders.

So larger on back will be trying to push the front tyres to go faster. Not good in my opinion. That is why I said remove the prop shaft/drive shaft and drive it 2 wheel drive is the safetest

205/80 or 235/75 is standard size for a disco. Actual rolling radius between those two sizes is negligable.
If it is indeed fitted with 205/75 then thats a fair difference in rolling radius and also your speedo will be over reading due to smaller rolling radius that intended unless its been recalibrated
Best to try and keep the same size on both axles but the effect won't be as damaging as it would on a freelander as a disco has a proper center diff.

By the way if you drive it with a prop of and 2WD you will need to use diff lock else it wont move

205/75 and 205/80s?

imo, it'll be fine, it's only 20mm. you probably get more difference between the same sized tyres from different manufacturers.

just means the centre diff is working more.

Isn't driving a freelander though?

it wont cause wind up ass you have center diff, it does mean center diff gears will be rotating slowly all the time to cater for difference, what effect that has on diff depends on its condition
