Defender Purchase Advice

Hi all, you will see from my signature that I am a P38 owner, but I have owned a series vehicle in the past.

I would like to buy a defender, preferably a 90 although a 110 isn't out of the frame.

I like V8 engines and would consider one that has already been LPG converted but will probably go for a diesel for simplicity and reliability from what I read on here.

I want to spend between £3K and £4K on the vehicle, knowing that I will have some work to do, it must have a sound chassis and bulkhead but I can do most jobs myself.

What sort of year do you advise, 200TDi, 300TDi ? etc.....

Besides the chassis and bulkhead, what else should I be wary of?

Any advice greatly appreciated?

This topic has been covered quite a lot recently, have a look.

Besides rust there isn't too much you need to look for. Most stuff can be fixed. The only other main thing to look for is to check the gearbox and transfer box work ok, in particular going into and out of diff lock.

for £4k you will be looking at a 2/300tdi with quite a few miles on. Don't let mileage put you off, though finding a rust free one will be a challenge I think.

Oh, and look for rust on the bottoms of the doors aswell.
