I am another vote for Richards. Although I have only had one it has been great. And is what I am looking at for the station wagon rebuild when that starts.I've had three from Richards, and wouldn't go anywhere else.
Could you post some photographs of your MAER chassis please? I need one for a 150 and they say they can make longer chassis than the standard 130 itemsHello,I used a MAER for mine, thought it was better than what I found here in uk. The company were easy to deal with, answered all my concerns I had. When i did the work on the 90 I have I did not need to make any modifications at all and all my old parts from the 1998 300tdi 90 went on exactly as they should, very easy. Im impressed with the quality of the MAER chassis ans if I had to do it again it would be the same chassis. Up to you but you would not go wrong with it. If you want to see some photos of it just reply and ill stick a few up for you.![]()
What did you paint your chassis in ? and are you aware you caught the lid of your cup with it as well ?Here you are mate. Bunch of pictures at various stages of the build. I can fully recommend the MAER chassis. Any questions please get in touch. You should be able to zero in on the photos to get good detail.![]()
Hello pal. I did yes. I rubbed every panel down by hand to as smooth as I could. I then used coachwork enamel primer and top coat. 2 coats of primer rubbed down between each one and then the top coat in bronze green. Two coats too. Done with a roller! Got my paint from paint man and all the ancillary bits n bobs like the cleaning fluid brushes rollers etc. I got three new doors for it too so they painted up well being new. The bodywork repairs and fitting and painting was the most time consuming part of the work. In its past life she had a wee lie down on her right side one time, wouldn’t know now. I’m no painter by any means but I followed the advice from a staff member at paint man and she was pretty right on. The type of paint I used was very easy to use. Discovered patience is a good thing doing body work.Did you do the body panel paintwork yourself ?

No probs. I’ll take some tomorrow in daylight and put them up.I would be interested to see the wheel well guards you mention.
Any pix?
Here you are. Got them from gwyn Lewis 4x4. £30 ish quid a set. Well worth it. Stopping a lot of muck getting chucked onto the chassis parts. Easy to fit onto existing mounts, front ones a bit tight to get in but no real bother really. Comes with stainless steel fittings to fit them. Good value I thought. No probs. I’ll take some tomorrow in daylight and put them up.![]()
I made my own for the front outriggers using some old conveyor belt, and did similar with the rear by extending the piece of rubber that covers the rear lights down to the bottom of the crossmember again with some old conveyor belt. they might not be as fancy as the ones you can buy but they also cost me nothing to do the same job:I would be interested to see the wheel well guards you mention.
Any pix?
