hi, first off, i have a 2000 x reg, DSE .

Im planning to mount a reverse camera system into my vehicle, which will have a 7" screen that can also be used for some other things. Im looking to place the monitor flush into the dashboard and the most prominent place for mounting seems to be where the cubby hole is next to the clock.

Under the analogue clock there is a small grill/ opening? Is this linked to something? CAnt seem to locate it in manuals. Also, has anyone else modified the dash in similar places and what are the issues that may come to the forefront.

All help appreciated as ever.

Climate control sniffer - believe there is a small fan behind it.

Okey doke,

If this is a part of the climate, any ideas if it is possible to relocte it slightly if required.

Whilst i can use mirrors, it will be usefull to see how close iam to things behind me (especially as i have a tow bar as well), whilst not driving the dog mad in the boot with an incessant beeping..

Hoping i can squeeze the screen into the space without upsetting anything, if not i shall have to make a pod for it to sit on the dash i guess.

Fit reversing bleepers much easyer, there is not that many Dwarfs about you know;)

Not at all. I'm quite sympathetic to the idea of things that make reversing easier. The high window line makes RRs buggers to reverse park and all the cars in my area seem to compete for the lowest bonnet in the UK award. I still think beeps are an easier solution than a parking dedicated CCTV system.

I would prefer beeps, for the simplicity.

But, they upset the rottweiler, and also will soon have a small kid hopefully asleep in the wagon as well. So silent is key.

Im also looking to hopefully incorporate a media player into the screen when it is not being a reverse aid, for longer journeys. There are a million simpler ways to do what i want to do. But then again, that wouldnt be as much fun as i reckons. I blame my engineering training...

Still, if im working on a media system, it will stop me fiddling with the mechanicals and searching for a little more go out of the beast.
 
Just learn to drive properly, no noise or gizmo's required. If you think the P38 is hard to reverse, try reversing a good size truck into a loading bay without hitting the wall.
 
Have you thought of replacing the stereo head unit for one with a slide out fold-up screen?

If you do go the cubby hole route make sure that you mount the cabin temperature sensor away from any other sources of heat.

When the tow bar hits something you are too close.
 
I did this on a previous P38 that I had.

I went and bought a spare facia panel from a scrap dealer and cut that one up carefully to fit a 7" Panasonic Satnav screen in. I didn't need to move the climate control sensor but did remove the clock. Careful work with a junior hacksaw blade and a Dremel drill allowed me to fit the screen perfectly. I had to make up som brackets to hold the screen, bit there are plenty of place to attach them to on the moulding.

I boxed up the original facia so that I could replace it when I sold the vehicle, it only cost a few quid to buy the spare one.

I have a Garmin Satnav that I plan to do the same with on my current P38, just got to go to the breakers and get the moulding.

Don't have any pictures unfortunately, but it wasn't too difficult a job and there is good space behind the cubby.

It is possible someone did it already P38 In Dash GPS/iPod/Back Up Camera - Land Rover Forums : Land Rover and Range Rover Forum the result is staggering! So if you are good with tools, you can make it
