cruise control not working/instructions anyone??

tried to use the cruise on my td5 auto for the fist time yesterday but nothings happening !!
could someone give me some instructions on how to use it please.
should the controls iluminate when lights on??

The push switch on the right of the dash should show a little orange light when cruise is ON.

Get up to speed. LIFT the SET switch on the steering wheel UP towards you.
Take your foot off the throttle. Speed should be maintained.

Now each time you lift that switch up it should speed the car up by about 1 mph.

A touch on brake or clutch pedals cancels cruise instantly.

There's a flexy flat cable thing in the steering wheel and column that sometimes wears out.

The OTHER switch on the wheel toggles Cruise ON / Cruise OFF.

Take care using it because Cruise remembers the last set speed, so if you were doing 70 and paused it by pressing "RES", and slow down to say 50, if you then lift RES it will slap on FULL THROTTLE INSTANTLY, and you may not want that!

My advice FWIIW, the moment you don't need Cruise, SWITCH OFF on the dash.

I think the speed increase is actually 2mph (as controlled by the ECU) on each prod of teh SET+ switch !!

Oh, and it is programmed not to engage below 28mph, (well mine is)

Allegedly the step speed increase is 1.5 kph ....

That seems to be standard.

BUT, someone said it would actually work in Lo Range in cars with hill descent control (mine has) to allow you to set the hill descent speed. I tried that once but I don't think it did a lot.

Hmm, you maybe right, never tried that one. I was under thge impression the HDC actually controlled the speed and wheel slippage by limiting the throtle imput (irrespective of the driver input) and by applying the brakes using the ABS channel.

I did have a go in a Disco 3 (on the LR experience day) and on a very steep down hill with HDC, low range and 1st slected (auto 6 speed) and it consistantly held 4mph, when I shifted up to 2nd, all that happened was the speed increased to 7mph

Pretty impressive - I WANT one :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

In the meantime, back to reality and my Disco TD5 manual, I will certainly give cruise a go in low range and see what heppens :eek:
