Hi Guys,
Central locking started to play up on Drivers Door. Can lock first time or on 20th attempt with resync. Central locking works from switch on central console. Will not lock with key either only drivers door locks. When using fob doors all lock then drivers door pops up. Alarm works as I found out late night. Any ideas ?Door motor etc, costs.

Still bleedin there Hatters...I'll do the sod one day...Just for info, latest on the rear dif, when I rang up to confirm the recon dif order, the shark tried to add on a few 'extras', surcharge, delivery, return of duf one etc. price came to too close to that of a new one, so, its into Nene Overland on Monday for a new one to go aboard. £399 + £85 fitting + £85 vat. And I get the junked one to sell on to a rebuilders. That should all add up to about £550 fingers xed...

Sorry to go off topic, but what was the issue with your rear diff??

I have been told that I need a new one by a LR dealer. I have obtained a replacement, but have covered a further 6,000 miles on the one that "needed replacement". I do have a clunk occasionally when booting hard, so have obtained diff mounts to replace when time allows.

Hiya G,
First noticed a whine from the back, just fort it was like the whine u used to get from 2.8 Capri's LSD's when the oil was gettin on.Then last week I was pulling into a parking slot when she seemed to stop all on her own(brake, rather than stall). Got home, felt round the wheels for warm drums, nowt. Went to look under the arse end and grabbed hold of the dif, fried all four finger tips and covered me hand in boiling oil. The dif was hot enuf to fry an egg, and was leakin oil from the Drivers side drive shaft oil seal. Should mention she sounded like a pound of nuts n bolts in a kenwood chef on the way home, all comin from the arse end..:( Verdict was an oil seal had let go, dumpin the oil out.She lasted about 4 weeks w/o any oil by my guestimate..No clunks from the dif, only clunk is from front end/roll bar drop mounts(fink) on hitting potholes/speedbumps.

Thanks Neil,

I've got a bit of noise too - gets worse when I turn the vehicle (ie when im parking). I've fitted polybushes to the front roll bar, so thats ruled out the clunk for me. (its definately the rear)

I'll see if i've got chance this weekend to change the mounts and i'll check the diff out some more. After 105K, I'm tempted to change anyway as I have one in the garage. Is there any value in the old unit (ie for reconditioning??)

Regards,

Steve

Steve,
they wanted £80 surcharge in case I didn't return the old one, so I would at least hope for £40-50 for the carcase. Especially when you consider that you can get a recon kit on fleabay for £70 eBay.co.uk: LANDROVER FREELANDER REAR DIFFERENTIAL REBUILD KIT (item 120055816027 end time 21-Mar-07 13:12:24 GMT)

I've just sent an e-mail to a couple of the recon boys listed, I'll let you know how we get on. More important Steve, if you're getting a whine from the rear end, check the oil level in the dif, also the seals..that was my undoing on self servicing I reckon...

Thanks Neil,

Last Saturday I replaced all three diff mounts and the clonking has gone. The front diff mount was completely broken and the collar inside was floating about.

I will check the oil level if the weather stays fine. Whilst I was underneath I checked the seals which dont appear to be leaking.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks a lot for you info - really useful.

Regards,

Steve.
