Hi all, after some help with buying a freelander for my dad. He is after one to run about the farm. Had a look at a X reg td4 gs 5 door.

It has done 98000 miles and has had new clutch fitted 2000 miles ago.Its a nice clean looking car just with afew scratches here and there.

What do i need to look out for and check on this, i have heard about the 4wd problems is there a easy way to check that these are ok?
Also i started it up and it appeared to be running on 3 cylinders at about 1000 revs but clears soon after, havent drove it yet hopefully have a better look tomorrow. was thinking the missing might be injector?? if so is this an expensive job to get sorted?

Sorry for all of the questions,
thanks for any answers in advance.

Regards Jason:)

Injectors are very very expensive for the Td4 & can jam in the head which makes replacement a head off job. As for 4wd, first look underneath & check that the rear prop etc. is all connected. Next stick it into reverse & with a light throttle (no throttle if it's an auto, just let the idle move it) reverse the car with the steering on full lock (repeat this several times both directions). Car should feel a little tight, like the handbrake is half on but shouldn't be stuck or try to stall. Check tyre wear to make sure it's even & not a sawtooth type wear pattern.
Do a search on here for info, there's been much written about what to check for.
