finally got to the nitty gritty, was starting to think this was another troll, but appears not, so Welcome Ugly Duckling to our happy band, yes discos are great and yes they break down if you dont look after them - they also break down if you do.
you'll find this forum a whole heap easier if you extract the stick and go with the flow, words of wisdom:-

1, you will get **** take - but you'll also get sensible answers, usually from the same peeps.
2, it's all done in jest, apart from when it's not.
3, pictures are better than words, it dont matter if you bought a lemon, just be honest about it, and dont complain if someone gives you advice that you dont want to hear.

anyway welcome.

Hello & welcome young swan.

Not much help apart from moral support, but I also bought off Ebay - in my case a Def 110 TD5. It took me 4 months to finally sort out it's main problem. Nearly all the advice I got on here was spot on and a lot of the lads do know what they are talking about.

Personally, I got something out of the experience which is worth a lot more than finally fixing it, and that was getting to know my Landy, almost intimately, as I went from one problem to another and finally to the solution.

So, let the ****-takers have a laugh, join in with them, because when you get truly down & despondent then take a few days off and have a laugh with them. Then, when you go back to it, you will be looking at it through fresh eyes, probably with a few more ideas to try.

Sadly, I cannot offer my help physically 'coz I live up in the heilans of Bonnie (snowy) Scotland, but I wish you luck and I hope your Ebay bucket turns out to be as good a buy as mine was.

Ron.

i take it thats pretty bad !

You better hope that it has been serviced since 1999 and they just haven't stamped the book! Jesus Christ if that's right you're lucky only the dampers fell off and you haven't exploded in some sort of blue cloud with engine components ripping through the cabin and whizzing by your face!

well, here is a happy Ebay purchaser. my 300tdi 90. agreed to buy without seeing it.

Trewy kindly went over for a little look before I could get down there and 3 years later no problems apart from a slightly corroded radiator.

treat Ebay car sales as you would any other.

same as everyone else sez, stick with it, and us, and hopefully summat will come good.
i'm on the wrong side of leeds for you, but have workshop, could possibly visit, could work summat out.
keep posting the problems, your diagnosis, solutions, etc and try to be specific. photo's help, and above all, search and browse on here.
you'll understand after a weeks worth of surfing.

oh, and i'm an enthusiast, not a dealer.

My series was an eBay purchase - indirectly, after it had ended emailed guy, buyer never showed up so went and looked and bought it at a lower price :)

I was buying an old vehicle, i expected some problems, i got a few problems, but nothing major and its still going strong (minus the lack of engine currently)

Welcome to the forum, hope you get your problems resolved :)

me warranty has eggspired now you know!

I also brought my Disco off Ebay, and rightly or wrongly was looking for a bargain as I only had limited funds.

I found an ES Auto Diesel in my budget that had all the welding done, which is the important part, but it is a high miler with no service history.

Its a bit tatty inside and no minter on the outside and I have so far spend money on:

Full service
Alternator Refurb
New Belts
New Battery
New Glow plugs
Replacement steering wheel
New Front Hub and Stub axle
De cat pipe and De EGR Kit
New Dampers
New Brakes

And I still love it, despite still needing the Injectors Cleaned, a new Cambelt, Propshafts looking at and a full steam clean and waxoil treatment.

I just make sure I use the search function and sift through loads of posts before I ask any questions, and just take any **** taking on the chin.

Welcome and I hope you get to enjoy owning your Landy as much as we all enjoy owning ours.

also bought my series offof the 'bay. even rote a thred on here sayin is this a pile o crap - evryone sed yes it is it's shagged. I ignored em all (mwahaha) and bought it anyway. guess wat - its shagged. needed a LOT of welding abut not much mechanicals, burns a lot of oil and is really worn out but I love it and it works :)

guess it's best to not expect too much off an ebay 'bargain'. I wuz happy with mine cos i knew it was shagged to start with. same with all the cars ive bought off ebay.

thanks everyone. well think i have located the problems, blown head and other gaskets blown too, turbo a tad iffy, ive decided to fix it myself mainly cos i love it ? so any advice would be great. its a nice winter project. and if all else fails i'll just stick a SD1 V8 in it for a laugh. as they say "keep calm and carry on"...... thanks guys.
