Buying a 110 with 22,000 miles

Hi chaps

Its a 110 td5 twin cab county black with rear canvas 53 plate 22,300 miles & 1 owner, had a remap by the land rover dealership & a stainless
exhaust eh that's it !!

It has been sitting outside and used very rarely used, never been off road either. I had a quick look over it the only part with any corrosion is the body mount above the chassis in front of the rear wheel not holed (yet):rolleyes:
but my issue is changing it............

What is involved is this a major head ache??

other things apart from a major clean are.............

Windscreen rubber is perished/splitting round the top corners
Rear diff weeping oil
Small oil leak from around the starter motor area
osr top shocker rubber worn

Is there any other things I should be looking for as I am going back for a better look at it.

And the big question is what is it worth as I have no clue apart from ebay prices I cant seem to find many for sale.

If the chassis is not actually holed, you might just need a wire brush and a paint and it'll be good for another 10 years. It's worth Dinitroling or Waxoyling the chassis if you're buying it and intending to keep it as the factory paint only lasts a few years. If the starter motor is wet with something that looks like oil it could be coming from the fuel pressure regulator which is on the side of the block just above. You can get replacement gasket and O ring kits for them or change the whole unit. in addition the rubber gasket under the rocker cover leaks and mine has been known to dribble down the back of the engine. Again, not a major problem. Similarly for pinion seals on the diffs. A small leak isn't a problem but eventually you may need to pull the flange off and replace it.

Looking at Ebay and Autotrader suggests that low mileage TD5s in good condition are getting quite collectable these days and you see asking process in the region of £10,000 - £15,000. Especially if they are unmolested and have some of the luxury features like heated seats, County Pack etc. So if you can get away with less than that it's a bargain. Congratulations on finding a low mileage, soon-to-be classic.

The chassis is solid with no corrosion its the bar between the body and the chassis that has loads of surface rust, it sits just in front of the rear wheels, I had a look for the part on ebay he called it the body cross member costing £55.00 I could do as you say and see how long it lasts
but I would rather replace it and have it mint I will try and add some pictures later.

Sounds good, is it from a dealer or private? There should be good history to back up the miles if only one owner, nice find.

MMmm ok we live in a rural village 1 road in and out to the nearest town
The owner has just retired from the navy works abroad most of the
year comes home and works on his yacht with his wife and does a bit of
kayaking his boat is not 2 miles from his house, when based at home
is based 8 miles away. I see when he is here as I work in the boat yard
which is 800 yards from my home also they have just spent £27,000 on a refit of a yacht. So not short of a few bob. I have never passed the land rover on the road only seen it parked up & driving in an out the yard every now and then I have no reason to doubt the mileage.

Its a private sale buddy it has not been advertised I was talking to him
about his boat and he said he was selling his landy and to my surprize
it turned out to have done 22k. Full service history and all paperwork
present and the price is cheap :D
 
Just been round to have another look but no land rover he put it in for
an mot it passed with 1 advisory on the rear discs so he is having the rear discs & pads replaced and a new battery as he thinks it will need replacing as its a few years old :cool:

If everything checks out I would without a doubt buy it,
as said they are fetching strong money at the moment so it would be a good investment
