I leave the bottom gate closed as it has my number plate on it, stick it out through top gate with seats folded and tray folded away, then ratchet strap the top gate latch to the tow hitch to hold it down.

Owners manual states do not drive with rear gates open as exhaust gas will vent into vehicle when stationary and nighty night.
Not a problem for me as it mostly come out my mid box

A Berlingo roof rack fits....

.... a Berlingo!

I tend to rent a trailer. £15 for a day stops the interior getting chewed up and no fannying around with van rental.

One of the bennies of having a RR with a towbar

I've considered this approach myself, trouble is self-tow trailer hire outlets are few & far between around here. Was yours' local or a national outfit with regional outlets?

Local.

I man band with various types from box trailers to tilt cat transporters to cage trailers. I've rented off him so many times he doesn't even bother taking a deposit now a few times I've fixed other renters damage to the trailers. He does competition off roading in landys too.

He obviously gets enough business to make it worthwhile, the lack of which I suspect is the reason these outlet are in short supply. Two have started up locally over the last couple of years but haven't lasted long. One of the main group of renters used to be 'horsey' folk needing Rice trailers, but they all seem to favour 7.5 tonne horseboxes these days. They love posing in their posh SUV's but need to take a trailer test to tug anything over 750kg. plus it's considered safer to 'box horses than 'trail them if you don't know what you are at.
Wish I had a tenner for every mile I've 'trailed a Rice & was driving 'boxes when I was 18 ;)

I have had loads of timber in my RR P38.
I am amazed at the load capacity of the Dash Assembly.
I usually Pop a dust-sheet on top of the dash and put the passenger seat as far FWD as it will go, and the backrest as far back as it will go.
Another sheet/protector over the seat/headrest and then stack the 4 x 2's or whatever in that space. The parcel shelf's load capacity is equally amazing.
Adjust the seat-back to then also bear some of the weight and its really surprising what it will tote.
Timber, plywood sheets, plasterboards you name it, I've toted it locally from the builder's Merchant's to my place or my son's.
2 garage conversions to "sheer-luxury" man-caves and the like. :)
Mind you...that was in the last Rangie.... this one, I am a bit "precious" about. ;)

I prefer my Bateson trailer for all the building stuff or the Transit.

I can fit 3M lengths against the windscreen and shut the boot. I have an old towel I put over the screen end and comes in handy for the dog to curl up in.
My ladder is 3 1/2M so I stick it out the top tailgate with a red&white attached.

I’d love a roof rack :(

You can fit roof bars. Thule do some that fit.
OE cost more than I payed for my entire RR, I could buy us both a set of new tree sliders for that price!

Thule da2993 seem good

I know the one you're on about. I cannot remember if he was on here or RR.net but it was custom made.
