Battery Cut Off Switch

Missed this thread originally. On my racing MG, I have an isolator on the live circuit - but that is so the ignition can be killed in an emergency. For the purposes of fitting a lighter weight "Odyssey" battery for when the car isn't driven much over the winter, I was planning on fitting a battery isolator to the negative terminal (a Lucas style switch with the fixed knob).

My thinking is that it matters not one jot where the circuit is broken (live or earth) if the purpose is to prevent battery discharge for winter month storage. But I am curious as to the comments regarding it being "safer" to put the isolator on the live circuit?

PS my live circuit isolator also disconnects the ignition circuits, but would not be suitable to prevent slow battery discharge as the alarm circuits (etc) remain powered.
