Hi there, I have a 95 4.0 V8 running on LPG. It recently had to have a gas service due to a leak but was running perfectly. On its return it's idle was constantly hunting, so badly it would stall when applying the brakes. I've replaced the air flow meter which seemed to cure the problem but now the issue it is completely un-driveable in the mornings on the way to work, stalling at junctions and roundabout both on petrol and gas. Coming home it hunts slightly but is perfectly driveable. It's back at the garage again and now they are proposing replacing the ECU which won't be cheap. I'm getting really frustrated as this is my only car. Any ideas? I can't afford to keep throwing money at her

Thanks
Bruce

Sounds like it could be a vacuum leak somewhere?... stalling when on the brakes might be a clue... and it's doing the same on petrol and gas?

Stalling would seem to point to either fuelling problems, which were discounted as just had gas service and was running well on petrol or a breathing problem so started by cleaning out the throttle sensor and replacing the MAF with another from a mates spare engine. Really am at a loss now, maybe thermostat?

or a new air flow meter who is to say the 2nd hand one was any good! if it cured it then went tits again, worth a try or even better if the mate who had the spare engine has a p38 borrow his known good one of his rangie to see if that cures it
