The old lady is in the hands of a trusted mechanic to sort out what initially looked like timing issues after a camshaft replacement.
Timing is ok, the issue seems to be the hydraulic lifter. I sourced those from a trusted source in the UK (none of the cheap ones like Paddocks, I use them for other parts). The guy working on it did some digging, and from experience from Rover experts in Switzerland and Germany, he got the feedback that the hydraulic lifter are a recurring issue when non-OEM ones are used.
Just to let you know, and not to pay double like I did!
