Hi folks,
I know you have probably heard all this before but I`m really stuck. I have been a mechanic for many years but, this has got me crazy.:mad:

My son took the Disco out the other night, came home and locked it up.

Next morning, I go out and unlock it (using a key fob - after market alarm system) and nothing happened.
The battery is fully charged. The key fobs are working fine.
The immobilizer/ alarm light in the clocks is constant red.
There is a symbol on the top right of a car with a key and it`s flashing. Obviously the immobilizer.

I have tried everything you can imagine to get it going but, alas nothing helps.
yes, I did try standing on one leg, hopping and chanting strange things whilst poking the headlight with a pointy stick.

Please help. If I can`t do this, it`s going down the scrappy.:eek:
 
As the the vehicle appears to be fitted still with its factory passive immobiliser you will need the correct fob to remobilise the engine.
How does the "after market alarm system" work in relation to the factory fitted immobiliser, as u say "key fobs are working fine" do u have two separate fobs?
 
I have 2 key fobs that work the alarm system. I got the car from my brother a while ago and he never had the original key fobs. There is no EKA code in the service book wallet.
It`s been working fine for the last 6 months since I got it from him. I have never needed the original key fob at all.

I don`t know how the alarm system works in line with the passive immobilizer.



There is no central locking via the drivers door. So I doubt the EKA would work anyway.

Then who knows, iffy wiring maybe, any bypass measures made on the immobiliser have failed therefore the vehicle has now immobilised its self, u could reboot the system by disconnecting and reconnecting the vehicles battery, doubt if anything would happen but u never know.
 
I have checked the Immobilizer box (AMR 4886 in the passenger footwell). The wiring looks ok.
I have disconnected the battery and tried all kinds of tricks.
I still get the red alarm light staying on constantly and the flashing key symbol.

Would remotekey be a good choice ? I don`t want to start throwing endless wads of cash if they are`nt going to help.
 
I was thinking of removing the alarm system. I doubt if that is the problem though because it works perfectly.
It`s the amr4886 thats at fault. I have even checked the circuit board for dry joints etc. Everything looks ok there.
When I remove the amr box, the immobilizer lights go out. When I re-connect it, it just does the same thing.
 
I spoke to Wicken 4X4 and they offered to re-program the box for 40 squid. But, I have no key fobs for it. How do I go about that without going to the main dealer and spending a mortgage payment.
