There is a centre spigot on the torque converter:- I could weld something to a normal manual flywheel (I have a spare) and get it machined to line up with the that centre spigot to line it up, but there is a fair but of play on the torque converter location into the gearbox, so that's a challenge.

I think that the fundamental problem with them is that they cause the drain holes to get blocked up with dirt, but then that can happen with any car I suppose. You need to make sure that the drain holes can drain water whether you have the protectors on or not.

what's an xei? I think that's a 1.8 K series? The early K series have a MEMS1.9 ECU and aren't EOBD compliant, but I don't know whether that applied to an xei.

I have just started working on welding up the sills on our new Freelander 1. It's triple layer which is a bit of a pain, because if the layer in the middle rusts out you have to cut off the outer sill, even if it's solid, to get to the middle layer. I haven't been able to find new outer sill...
