WARNING: repeatedly switching the ignition on and off may stop you from being able to start the engine on your Freelander. I have done this on my 2001 v6 several times with error code P1666. Clearing the code doesn't allow you to start the engine. The way I get round this is to disconnect the negative terminal to the battery, then connect it again. I was then able to start my engine.
Not all Freelander 1's have the STM option available. It's possible to enable or disable it in the ecu but we don't know if it will start working if the option is changed from dissabled to enabled.
This fred will be updated with more information soon.
Self Test Mode
Freelander 1's have a Self Test Mode, which allows you to control the main computers outputs like the tailgate release, door locks, wipers etc. I used this recently to open my tailgate, as it wouldn't release because the tailgate window wouldn't drop. If more people knew how to use Self Test Mode, then they would be able to benefit from it. Some of this is cut from the rave disk. The rest is written up by me.
I've put this thread up for people to make comments on how to improve it, by checking the instruction for themselves.
My Freelander is a 2001 v6 auto, so I need some assistance from people with a manual gearbox Freelander. Some of the features I'd like tested while your Freelander is in Self Test Mode are:
1. Clutch pedal - when pressing it does the horn bleep and the internal lights flash? Not sure if there's a position switch on the clutch pedal.
2. Front fog lights - when switched on does the horn bleep and the internal lights flash?
3. Manual gearbox HDC switch on the gearlever - when pressing it does the horn bleep and the internal lights flash? It doesn't on my auto.
4. 3 door removable roof - does the horn bleep and the internal lights flash when the roof is removed and refitted?
5. The controls for switching on the diesel burning heater. Are there any, and if using them do they make the horn bleep and the internal lights flash?
6. Cruise control on the steering wheel? Nothing happens on my Freelander when the buttons are pressed.
7. Faulty door key - will a faulty door key still put your Freelander into test mode?
8. Test sunroof - can someone do this and advise if horn bleep and the internal lights flash? The fuse is removed on mine as it doesn't close properly so I can't tell.
9. Would be good to list if others living in different countries other than the UK could advise if their Freelander has self test mode. Can you advise the country your Freelander is from, and if self test modes works. Eg Germany yes it works.
