Fit cheap Ebay rear parking sensors, advice to location of sensors

Hello all!
Bought a cheap rear parking sensor kit on ebay a while back. This one to be precise. Need some advice to where I should put the sensors, please.

The two in the middle is no problem, already drilled the holes, similar to the blue one in the last picture. The ones one the sides are a bit more problematic.
Have anyone successfully fitted these cheap aftermarket sensors in the location like the pictures? I am a bit concerned about the angel of the bumper.
Was there ever a p. sensor optional extra on the Freelander 1?

A have a friend that installed a similar kit on his 75, he fitted them to low (to steep an angle) rendering them useless.

Any advice are most welcome, you don't get a second attempt at the drilling..

According to rave the positioning is more like the top one. Looks flatter there too.

There was an accessory kit for the freelander both facelift and preface lift.

Might be worth looking in TOPIx for the fitting instructions to give you an idea where LR positioned them.

Of course what you can't tell with the genuine kit is what angle the sensors are.

I miss parking sensors having had them on previous cars and I thought about fitting a set of these myself, as I am always worrying about hitting something behind with the spare wheel.

I presume the wiring is fairly straightforward?

I miss my front sensors that I had on the Yeti.

I drove a Nissan Leaf yesterday which had 4 cameras. Very strange! Great car though. Very tempted.

Thank you all for your replies! Would anyone with a OEM kit be willing to post some pictures of the angle of the sensors? I think I'll mount them in the same position as the top picture, will report back with pictures. The wiring is easy, power from the reverse light, ground somewhere. Same thing at the front. No need to wire trough the car as the kit is wireless. Stay tuned for updates.

Quick update. Finished installing it, all I can say is go for the wired one, not this wireless kit.. On the positive side, it's possible to tell it to take the towbar and spare wheel into account and tell you the distance to the outer rear point of the car and not to the sensors. A few pics.

Connected the head unit to ground and one of the aux positive terminals in the fusebox.




Drilled the outer holes for the sensors, app. where you lot told me to.



Fed the wires behind the left rear bulkhead or whatever it's called..



Connected the sensors to the unit, and wired it up to the left reverse light.



Placed it so it's accessible from the left rear light unit, quite difficult to see in this picture, it was getting dark before I finished.



I originally placed the unit on the left side of the dash, like the picture below.
Happy with a job well done, I went out and tested it. No luck, they seemed to have a mind of their own, kept bleeping randomly and did not work at all.

First port of call was to tighten the ground nut I used for the unit, that helped a bit.. But they where still useless. Played around with the sensor angels a while, did not help either. I accidentally discovered that they seemed to work as they should as long as I stepped out of the car. See this video I took to see for yourself. I concluded that it had to do with signal loss between the rear unit and the front. Either I have to go on a serious diet, or the signal is just bad.



After I moved it, all is (reasonable) well, they work quite well, a glitch or two here and there. Thats why I would recommend others to go for the wired model.

The range on these isn't great, on my old vectra I had the sensor box as far forward as it would reach, this helped reliability a lot. Maybe yours could sit nearer the suspension turret?

Cheap camera and a cheap screen would be better maybe?

Cheers, I'll give it a go, it's rubbish atm, where it's currently located. Silly me for thinking it should be able to reach app. 2 meters to the main unit..

in deed, I noticed the prices on the cheap cam and screen just after I had ordered this kit, thought I would give it a go.

I've got a £7 jobs installed to my double din stereo with screen works a treat it slots into bumper like the parking sensors do bit it has a tendency to Spon a little so some glue or a screw down one would be better, can't fault the camera quality itself tho..

Tempted? Tempted?? How can an Eco Warrior ever vacillate when it comes to saving the f***ing planet!!

I would like both I have the sensors on my Freelander but when I was in the good old USA I hired a j--p and it had reversing camera which was good and if you turned the front wheels the camera would show which way you would be going, which was great but it did not tell you how far you were of the other cars in the parking lot.
