Hi all,
I have a Landrover 110. Built in Durban, South Africa. It is a 1990 model with no VIN plate. Talking to local mechanics, they tell me the older models manufactured in SA use the chassis # for the VIN. My registration and paperwork support this. I still want to find more info on this to reassure myself and to find out the exact manufacture date, as I plan to ship the vehicle to the States. It will need to be 25 yrs. old to legally ship with much less hassle. Does anyone have any idea on where to find more information regarding this?
Thanx!

Thanks SteNova,
My 110 does not have a VIN plate. I am told the chassis # (406772) is the VIN. This is the number recorded on the registration. It does not have a 17-digit VIN, but only the 6-digit. This is what I am searching more info on.

So you have to wait 2 years to ship. And be very careful about it as everything has to be as built. And another thing is it is a south african vehicle so you need to check about importing a vehicle from south africa into the States. And check about if it need to be sanitized first. Are you a US citizen?

Good luck

SteNova,

There is a front leg number, it is the chassis number. I am trying to trace it and find out more details but don't know where to start.

Thanks Thor. I am a US citizenand am leaving SA July 2014, but have co-workers that can store the Rover until 2015. The rig is all original. 2 previous owners took good care of it. No engine changes, body swaps, etc. I have found a company that will export it for me, but want to ensure no hang-ups. I believe all fluids will need drained, etc. If all is legit with the VIN, I think the hardest part will be titling in the states. It is do-able, but a pain apparently.

Thanks for all the help!

Well do the paper work to make sure. There has in the past been bans of vehicles from south africa (and africa) entering the US, as they have animals diseases( Bio security) that they do not treat for which is in the soil and dust on a vehicle and could raise hell with US livestock producers. Just be careful and check and double check with the customs people and make phone calls and record any and all phone calls with names etc. Don't rely on what exporter says as he gets paid rather it is crushed when it gets to the states or not.
