Morning,

I am wanting to fit a mantec spare wheel carrier to my defender 110, however ive had the rear door replaced with a new one which is blank so doesnt have any of the original holes or fittings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The plate that is supplied with the carrier fits into the square hole inside the back door, remove the panel and you will see it.

negative, the plate supplied by Mantec goes on the outside of the door and is to big to fit in the square hole inside the door...

ah, yes possibly but the holes on the new mantec plate are outside the internal 'square'...just had a look at the picture of my old door during the rebuild and there is no internal plate or evidence there ever was...no holes either...not sure how to upload images onto here...

The only other option you have is to make the carrier with the plate in place, close the door and usin a very short pencil mark a couple of holes, then dismantle the plate start drilling and fix it in place, be sure to adjust the stop properly once you're done, fit good washers inside to stop the bolts pulling through.

You could also contact Mantec for details of how they're fitted.

Good luck

Measure the plate that's on the outside of yer old door. There's two bolts either side of the middle "box in yer photie. dunno if you got two strengtheners with yer kit or not... did with mine (not Mantec)....

Dunno if yer plate is predrilled or not... again, mines was....

Easy enough to take measurements from yer old door and transfer onto new one;)

Mine is much more substantial than that with 2 plates as already mentioned, I swapped mine from 1 door to another without any probs.

Ay, but ah reckon ah don't need any more plates as the weight is taken up by the rear x-member and tub....

Nearly furgot the plate behind the top mount...

Not doubting its strength Buster just saying that mines different. Although when the door is slammed shut there is still a fair amount of weight being pushed against the door and personally feel that a couple of plates do help to spread that load.
Horses for courses i suppose.

Looking alittle closer at your first piccie the fixing is offset from the pivot, mine is directly behind it so would need a bit of bracing

Aye true mate;) Now ye've got me thinkin'! Back in a mo'....:D

Just went and checked me old door as ah thought there was a plate on the back... there wasn't, just strengtheners. It was an even older door with the original factory fitted wheel carrier that ah was getting mixed up with:doh::doh:;):D

Easily done mate, mine's been on 2 doors and going onto another soon, if I can find one that is.
