1984 90 2.5NA. Have heard a few stories of people changing clutch without taking out engine or box. Is it true you can slide box back just far enough to get at clutch plate and have the clearance for shaft. I am keen to do this myself but being a NA engine there is not too much to do to take engine out. Given I have a drive way and no workshop what is the easiest way to do the clutch. I put a 200tdi in on my other landy in the drive in the summer with the help of a tractor and that was a turbo with power steering so had more to do to get the engine out.
Thoughts?

Either remove rad and unbolt engine and pull it forwards or lift engine out completely. or replace the bottom 4 bolts in the bellhousing with 6" lengths of threaded bar then use a trolley jack to support GB while you slide it back 5".

did this on a 300tdi recently to change the clutch, had no lifting gear so rested the box on the cross member, also did my own gearbox change without lifting gear.
