can anyhbody help.
i am thinking of upgrading my freelander 1 (1999). i have just taken it down to 2 wheel drive as the transfer box blew up and i'm fed up of replacing bushes etc.
i am thinking of a 2006 freelander td4 es.
my question is, have the faults been resolved from the 1st freelanders or am i in for more of the same problems with this later model ?

Not exactly helpful! Why bother to comment if you haven't got the sense to say something constructive.
You obviously have too much time on your hands.

Chill out pick yer dummy back up. If ya get arsey they will just feed on it.

Ask in the Freelander section and you'll get a better response. Freelanders are like marmite. You either love em or hate em. Tratter drivers think of freelanders as hairdressers cars so they do have the mickey taken out of em. Don't take it to heart. Pull on yer rhino skin coat and roll with the punches. You will get yer answers as long as you keep yer dummy in yer mouth.;):)

Oh, and please do not swear outside of anything goes.

If you are going to upgrade your car why would you by a freelander? Upgrade it to a real 4x4, I mean the 2010 model doesn't even have a low range on it does it?

What use is that if you have to tow something up a steep drive or uproot a tree. It's probably fine for pulling a comb from an Afro but seriously? Freelander? Waste of space if you ask me!

The F2 seems to have fixed most of the issues of the F1.

They seem very good cars, no, they're never going to compete off-road with a -'fender, but, they definetly have a place.

No gaylanders ever had low range

Facelift TD4's went up to 2006 so it may still be a FL1 he's talking about. You don't buy a FL to pull out tree stumps or crawl up hills so steep as to need Low range! You buy it for a smooth ride that doesn't need the MPG or height of a Disco.

Facelift TD4's had a lot of the earlier glitches sorted out including gearing ratio's that didn't strain the VCU as much.

Early models FL2's had different problems that got ironed out a couple of years later.

I've owned a V8 110 County, 300TDi Disco and Freelander. All have their good points and bad ones. Rot is a big issue for defender and disco, ground clearance and head warping petrol engines for the freelander.

Buy the model that suits what you need it to do
