How good is a new Range Rover off road?

Was chatting to a pal of mine, was sayin new Rangeys cant be good off road. he showed me this video, im sure its been on here before. i know its on road tyres etc etc.

I was under the impression its the driver. My dad had a Range Rover Classic many moons ago and it was fantastic off road. Very capable. My mate was saying are the new Range Rovers any good off road, I was under the impression they should be bloody fantastic so went to look for some videos. Cant really find anything tbh.

So are they? any videos/pics of them doing some impressive off roading, im struggling to find anything but rock crawling and it worries me slightly.lol.

that video is just proof that tyre choice is incredily important.

farmer mate of mine uses his '08 RR sport as his everyday vehicle, with standard 18" wheels and AT tyres it goes everywhere round the farm that his old disco would and hasn't got stuck off road yet.

Most new RR's would be **** off road as they generally have 22"'s and low profile tyres on them.
 
i had a l322 for a LR experience day on std road tires.**** hot.But 65k i would **** about with it off road.All the computery stuff makes it "drive its self!"
 
Your mate hasn't got a clue by the sounds of it, new RRs are easily the most capable luxury 4x4s on the market. In stock form, I wouldn't be surprised if they are as capable as a stock 110 off road.

Haha, yeah me too! The only problem with them as mentioned before, is that the tyres they tend to be equipped with from the factory are getting increasingly slicker and lower profile. Chuck some A/Ts on and as I said I reckon it would give a 110 on A/Ts a run for its money :)
 
I guess the reason you dont see more new rangerovers doing serious offroad is cause they cost so much. If you put a dent in a defender or disco 1/2 itss probably not going to worry you too much and if you want to put it right its only going to cost a few quid. Try to fix a similar prob in a new rr and youre likely to be looking at hundreds or even thousands of pounds. No doubt 10 years from now all the 'new' rangerovers and disco 3's will be thrashed around offroad like the disco 1's of today are.

I dunno, the problem with the new ones is the amount of electrickery, and this has never really been LR's strong point, also the sensors etc tend to be fairly delicate so if you do throw it around in the mud chances are you'll bugger up at least one of the (many) thousands on the new rangey.

saying that though - pretty much all of the reviews I've seen recently still put the RR as top of the heap, how much longer for, i have no idea but at the mo...
