How to check oil on gearbox?

On the early models you can open up the fill plug on the gearbox

If oil doesn't drop out then it needs topping up

Unless on the later models the oil is checked electronically or through a dipstick

Does it not require the oil at 40C and the engine running to set the level on the early ones or am I dreaming? The later cars may well be different and this is a TD V8 with a totaly different box but I would still think it may need the engine running.

I’ve attached some instructions in case it helps (single page .pdf).

The combined filler/level plug is on the RH side of the casing :

Only use ZF Lifeguard Fluid 6 in you 6HP26

A very common area for fluid leakage is the seals on the electrical connector sleeves :

so that might be worth checking?

Cheers for that information! Will have a look if it's coming from the plug.

Saint.V8,

Where in Surrey do you live, when I'm allowed to ask?

I need to remember this thread for when I do filter and oil change in the summer..

Many thanks...
Bembles Info is for the 6HP26 fitted to the later models....although similar process for the earlier L322's

Hi

I have struggled to find the gearbox fill plug for my partners
Range Rover Vogue 2007 Desiel V8 think L320 or L322. Reg RA07CUU Nd vin ends in A254600. Think the gearbox is 6 speed and level goes inline from park to drive and does have a L shape.

I have drained the gearbox oil and changed the plastic filter pan. Now I need to fill it if the fill pl7g can accessed by crawling under the car.

Your picture shown a 8mm hex plug in this post on the NS passenger side for UK cars.
When I looked under car I could not see this fill plug.

Do you know where it is please.

My new post link is

Incase you can answer there.

Regards
Ken

The clue is there if you re-read the post....
"The combined filler/level plug is on the RH side of the casing"
Right-hand-side is the same, whichever side of the car you drive from.
