Its running but only if I hold the key in cranking position  think I must have a wire the wrong way round, going to have a look at see if swapping it round on the barrel helps as there must only be a live feed when its held in that position…..might be a duff barrel but will see

Wasn't it running ok before you took the distributor out

Running fully :D barrel is a bit buggered so it wasn't giving power to the constant live. Stuck it direct to the battery and it turns on an off with the key, running kinda lumpy as I've not had a chance to sort the timing out fully but will tomorrow.
Had to go to the gym at 5 :) this series won't keep me from completing my scheduled workouts :p

Video uploading its just a bit rough atm but that could be down to timing being a little out as it dies a bit when I pull the throttle cable as seen in the vid.

The plugs are unknown, britpart leads, year and a bit old fuel and the fact I had the flapper propped open to run the fuel pump may also have an effect on it so I'm going to sort the timing out properly tomorrow by twisting the dizzy until I find the sweet spot which should hopefully cure it if not I'll work through the rest of the list and dig out the Bosch leads I've got squirrelled away :)

Also got a nice backlit temp gauge with a warning light

Excellent news on the running V8 :)

Got mine running tonight too :) turned out not to be the ignition switch after all but a dodgy contact on the starter motor where the nut goes on. Need to readjust the tappets a bit now after giving it a decent run, sounds good though

I've got the same problem 200tdi had where it dies if you apply the throttle, going to check his thread and see what the fix was just incase its not a timing issue with mine

Thats good :) got a vid then ? Mines definitely the barrel :( so do need to buy a new one or just get the switch panel fitted

Well, we were fiddling about as the dash lights wouldnt come on, my dad fiddled with the starter motor contacts, the lights came on and we just decided to run it :D Nearly gassed myself though trying to find the keys to open up the garage door to let the fumes out :p

Will do a video whence I have adjusted the tappets (poss tomorrow, if not the end of the week) ;)

Nice :) Got a chrome bezelled mechanical one and matching oil temp gauge to go in mine at some stage :) Got to find a clock to match first, may find one at the NEC next month :D

My problem was my MAF sensor unplugged it and it ran, cured it now though :)
